He was presented with the award on mid-October as his new release People Watching was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

He also joined in, raising over £100k on his recent tour to assist numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted locations that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties arising from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," the star has stated.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the local youth club that supported their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also the 1994 recipients the group contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"The victory was ample," stated artist Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had rescued several small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who purchase "shares" in the venues.
